Movie Review: The Prestige
No Spoiler IncludedTonight I got off of work at 5pm so I decided to go see a movie. I went with my mom, dad, and my 88 year old abuelita. The last movie in theatres we all saw together was Forrest Gump in Corpus Christi. Anyway, I've been wanting to see this movie for a while now because I immediately knew it was going to be a movie I would like. Sometimes, I just know when I'm really gonna like a movie and those type of movies don't come along too often. The last movie I knew I was gonna like was "The Notebook." Although a chick flick, still one of my favorites. I loved the movie because the whole time I was trying to figure out the magic tricks and the story of the movie too. It was one of those movies that was really hard to predict the ending. At first, I immediately thought the ending was cheap, but then after like 10 seconds, I thought it was a pretty good ending. I loved all the actors especially Christian Bale. After seeing this movie, he's probably one of my favorite actors. Hugh "Wolverine" Jackman and Michael Caine were good too but I thought Christian Bale was the best in the movie. And I have to say that my crush on Scarlett Johansson continues. Very curvy I must say. Piper Perabo's cameo was nice too, she's pretty cute.I think I would consider myself a harsh movie critic, so the movie would probably be rated a little higher than what I'm about to rate it.Based on a possible 10.Rating: 7.5
Why I Love World Soccer Daily
What is World Soccer Daily?A 2-hour radio show that's caller-driven and talks about world football but mostly the English Premier League and its tops clubs. Based in Los Angeles, CA, the two hosts of the show, Steven and Nick, describe the show as an "entertainment-first" show and a "football analysis" show second. Why do I listen?Because it's F*in hilarious. Not only do the two hosts have original humor, but they get some extremely wierd callers. I started listening to the show in January of '06 and there have been three callers who have taken the show over. Mike from NY is just an idiot because of comments. Cameron from Minnesota talks like a robot and doesn't let anyone else speak when he's talking. Lastly, the Lotion Man . . . this poor soul calls into the show every day just to say something relevant to penises or cocksucking. He has a distinguished voice and by now everyone knows who it is when he calls, but yet for entertainment purposes they still let him have his 10 seconds. It's always funny to hear what this loser has to say next. What's the importance of this show? This radio show has been the best entertainment I have experienced. I could die without a TV, but not without this show. To me, it blows everything out of the water. I have never loved any entertainment as much as this. NO TV SHOWS, NO MOVIES, NO MUSIC, NOTHING. This does it for me. I have now listened to this show every Monday through Friday since January and I can't get enough.
All My Expensive Shit Is Breaking
You know life is funny. The minute I started working and getting a bi-weekly paycheck, all my shit started breaking. So now, I have to replace everything. And after reading the short list of things, you might think . . . jeez, this guy should be thankful that he has these things and not complaining about replacing such nice things. I am totally grateful that I have these things, but ain't it a bitch that they broke!1) iPod - Just stopped working; a new one costs almost $300.2) PS2 - I messed it up because I thought I could fix it by taking the console apart; I just permanently damaged it. And to top that off, I had just bought a new $50 video game. Since the new PS3's come out in November, I figure I'll just get one of those but wait . . . those cost at least $500.3) Computer Speakers - Must have gotten damaged when they were shipped back from Boston. New ones cost $150.4) Car Speakers - They must have popped because my amp is producing too much power and my speakers can't handle it. When the robbers stole my car stereo, they took everything but they didn't steal my speakers and when my insurance was nice enough to replace everything, the new amp was more powerful . . . hence my old speakers were not able to handle the power of the new amp. I haven't priced any new speakers, but I'm going to take a shot at around $250 - $400.So in total, everything could range between $1200 - $1500. Aint that a "B." And just when I wanted to get DirecTV so I could watch my "Spurs." Tottenham, that is.
My New Love Affair with Another Team Called "Spurs"
A Tottenham Hotspur Football FanIn case you didn't know, Tottenham Hotspur is an English Premier League football club. Notice I said football not "soccer." That's a big issue with me, but that's for another time. I started getting into football around January of '06 when I started listening to a radio show via my iTunes called "World Soccer Daily." The radio show is hosted by a couple of English guys who talk about the English Premier League. The best football league in the world. Spain and Italy also have good football leagues but the English Premier League to me is the best. Again, a topic for another day.So it all started with this, when one of the hosts recommended an ESPN article for newbie "soccer" fans who want to get into the game of football. This article by Bill Simmons explains how a newbie "soccer" fan picks a team. After reading it, I agreed completely with his logic. Then, I chose Tottenham Hotspur as MY football team. So what were my reasons for choosing? 1) I did not want to jump on the bandwagon and pick a clear-cut winner, so instead I picked a team that I could grow with. Plus, I think it's better to suffer first than to come out and pick whoever is winning. To me, that's jumping on the bandwagon. Spurs clearly showed that they were definitely not considered as Premiership royalty, but they did show a promise of awesome youth players so I figured they might be awesome in a few years time.2) At first, I didn't like their kits or their "uniforms." But I knew that kits change almost every year now, so I kinda blew that off. And now, I'm completely fine with how they look.3) So why didn't I chose another team? The other teams just seemed non-appealing to me. I didn't want a team that was gonna get relegated. Although, a team that got promoted like Reading appealed to me because they absolutley killed in the Championship League and they had an American leading their team. None of the other mid-table teams appealed to me either. Newcastle was the only other team that seemed interesting because of the love of football in that town by their die-hard fans. But I like my Spurs better. So with those reasons, I picked a Tottenham Hotspur. A quality side I can grow with. Ever since August when I got extremely interested, I have broadened my knowledge about football. I follow them like I follow the San Antonio Spurs or Boston Red Sox. My third dedicated team.
An Autobiography
Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas by Paul and Irene (aka "Moms" and "Pops"). When I was kid, I wasn't a child who would yell and throw tantrums. I was quiet and just observe everything and everyone. I definitely wasn't one of those kids who would run around the table and up and down the aisles of a nice restaurant. I wasn't annoying kid. I suppose I should be thankful to my moms and pops for raising me with strict, but fair punishment and showing me that I should respect everyone and everything.I went to Wonderland Day Care, then to Hope Lutheran for Pre-K and Kindergarten. I then went to St. Gregory's for 1st grade. Then, I went to St. Luke's for 2nd - 8th grade. I went to high school at Antonian College Preparatory. I went to Boston University for my freshman and sophomore years. I then transfered to University of Texas at San Antonio for the remainder of my college experience. And this is where I'm at now in my schooling life. There's no way I could talk about everything that happened in my life so I'll do best to summarize. All through grade school, I played CYO Sports like "soccer," baseball, and basketball. The team was called the "St. Luke's Rattlers." I have to say that I was probably one of the better players at each sport. I was always good at school making good grades and usually just quiet. I had a best friend up to 7th grade when he went to another school. His name was Sam. Then I met Brian Dena, that queerbag was probably my worst best friend. Such a bad influence. Even to this day. I stopped playing those sports after elementary school. Then came high school. At Antonian, I played golf, was in the school band, and in various other activities so that it would look good on my college applications. I still love golf today. My friends consisted of Brian, Daniel, John, and some that are probably not that important to list. I also had a girlfriend at the time named Allegra. The relationship had its ups and downs. And I believe to this day we were both too immature to handle a serious relationship. There's so much I haven't said about high school, but I suppose these were the highlights. Then came college.Boston University. Wow. School of my dreams. Why? Probably because it was F*ing BOSTON. The Red Sox, the students, the city life, MY OWN LIFE away from moms and pops. My dream came true. Everything was great except school. At first it was tough, I thought I wanted to be a doctor. Man, I was wrong. I then decided to move on to business school and by that time financial aid wasn't a friend of mine and times were hard back home financially. So the best solution was to come back home and finish college at UTSA. But I have to say that I do not regret my time in Boston. I experienced alot of things. I had best friends: Bill, Kevin, and Gamboa, I learned to love two new sports: cycling and hockey, I was extremely religious for a semester, and I got to experience the Red Sox beat the Yankees and win the World Series. I also started to listen to a "soccer" show and today I support a "soccer" club in England because of that radio show. But probably the most influential thing that affected me was that I have to find who I am and I still don't know who I am yet. I'm still searching for that person. I'm searching for "Scott the ______." I have to fill in the blank. And that is where my life is picking up right now. I have to discover who I am.So after transferring to UTSA. I'm currently taking some courses so I can complete my MBA in San Antonio. I also currently work at Star Furniture with my cousin in the Customer Service department. Work and School is tough, but somehow I find the tough regime of handling both is good for me. I suppose everything in life happens for a reason. Leaving Boston was tough for me, but I'm not going to let that define who I am.
